B

Carnivine is the better choice over Pansage, due to its ability to cross gaps, float on water, not activate bounce pads, and immunity to poison tiles.

Whilsicott can climb ledges.

D

Rhyperior's attack requires so much space to use, it's effectively worthless. Especially in close quarters combat. While it can inflict incredible amounts of damage to Flying-type Pokémon, its inability to use its move the turn after using it, and its limited range make it terrible in combat.

Don't Use

Beedrill has its super-weak multi-hit attack, as well as being unable to attack over water tiles.

S

Staravia has a good range, on top of being a decent attacker of Fighting-type and Grass-type Pokémon. Being able to traverse over water and immunity to poison tiles. Staravia is additionally immune to the Ground-type damage of being blown off of a tower in Terrera.

A

Gurdurr is not only a strong fighting type, but its ability to knock enemies back and off of ledges makes it great for arenas where you have to knock enemies away from flags.

Eevee is good, despite its useless typing, due to its ability to move a second time after defeating a foe, and its relative strength.

Machop's a decent fighting type, and its ability to knock foes back, but not off of ledges, is useful.

Shieldon is decently strong, immune to poison, can make foes flinch, knock them back, and off of ledges.

Pansear's large attack pattern allows it to hit numerous enemies while potentially avoiding allies. Its melee ability can also deal minor amounts of additional damage.

Dratini is devastating to fight at low levels, or early on in an adventure, and can be equally as devastating for your enemies.

Kadabra is a decent attacker, and its ability to attack 3 tiles at once, including over gaps makes it versatile and useful.

B

Treecko can seemingly climb walls, on top of being able to use its absorb attack to restore a bit of HP.

Timburr's ability to knock enemies back, and off of ledges sets it above Scraggy as a fighting-type attacker.

Cubchoo and Mareep aren't particularly strong, but their ability to hit multiple tiles in a row makes them useful for attacking multiple enemies or attacking from behind cover.

Anorith can hit multiple tiles and appears relatively strong.

Rhyhorn hits like a truck, and its attack pattern makes it less likely to deal friendly fire damage.

Spiritomb is immune to Psychic-type and Fighting-type Pokémon, on top of being a relatively strong fighter.

Kirlia's annoying ability makes so many enemy attacks miss, that this alone sets it above all of the other one-tile gap attackers.

Roggenrolla's multi-hit attack allowing it to attack from behind allies makes it much stronger than the other one-tile gap attackers.

Gastly, and Haunter are great for attacking pesky Psychic-types, and has a great range and can float over ledges.

Wooper, Spheal, Pichu, Snorunt and Oshawott fall just short of Kadabra, due to the one-tile less attack range they offer, but are otherwise great picks.

Duskull can float over enemies, is immune to magma tiles.

C

Petilil and Cottonee's absorb can restore a little bit of HP, and that's the only reason it's not lower on the list.

Scraggy is a decent enough attacker, but its lack of strength leaves something to be desired.

Skorupi's poison jab attack is relatively effective.

Charmander, Larvitar, Tepig, Onix, Litwick and Joltik can attack around allies, but that gap also limits their attack in its uses.

Shinx is relatively useful. Its direct attack is useful against close-quarters Flying-type and Water-type Pokémon.

D

Pansage's attack makes it usable, albeit with the risk of occasional friendly fire.

Darumaka's charge up attack can hinder its ability to attack in many situations.

Drilbur's 2-stage attack makes it largely useless in most battles. It eats up a tile and takes 2 turns to use a relatively weak attack. It's equally as annoying to fight.

Grovyle and Chameleon manage the annoying feat of being less useful than their level 1 forms, with disappointing attacks, and a lack of any real usable abilities.

E

Venipede and Ekans are generally incredibly weak, but may be viable against Grass-types if they manage to poison them.

Luxio and Flaaffy's attack is good for hitting several enemies at once, but due to their propensity to cause friendly fire damage, they make them difficult to use or place.

Jigglypuff's attack is weak, often doesn't attack more than twice, and isn't super effective against anything.

Don't Use

Gothita, Chingling, and Ralts need to be so far away that they're effectively worthless, especially in close-quarters combat.

Munna's attack is good for temporarily incapacitating enemies, but in terms of combat, it's effectively dead weight.

Pinecone is almost as worthless as its evolved form, the only saving point it could possible have is its annoying Jagged Edge ability.

Forretress

Magicrap and Abra are as useless as Forretress. They should only be used by their Perfect Link warriors to evolve them.
